Dr. Burman is Middle East expert, specialising in hybrid terror organizations and their connection to state actors. He combines high-level academic research with current military intelligence experience, and extensive public-facing geopolitical analysis. Iftah holds a doctorate in Middle Eastern Studies. His research examined the strategic use of violence by non-state actors to safeguard autonomy, and the connection between criminal networks and terror financing, specifically within the context of Hezbollah’s operations. His findings have been presented at major conferences and featured in international news outlets. Iftah teaches at the university level, and is a recurring voice on international broadcast and print media, providing a grounded, non-partisan reading of a volatile region.
In cooperation with the Foundation for Defence of Democracies, I published a policy memo, mapping out the rerouting methods Hezbollah has been engaged in to make use of $1 Billion annual budget, since early 2025, in a desperate attempt to reconstruct its military wing, following the IDF’s massive decapitation operation in late 2024. Relevant countermeasures are suggested to help policymakers combat the organization’s force buildup.
